Frequently Asked Questions

Embedded Intelligence™ is a data platform that collates key information about tech companies from a range of data sources and analyses to help:

  • Buyers find Suppliers
  • Supplier find prospective partners
  • Analysts identify trends in the technology market

It was launched in March 2023 and will be evolving quickly from this point, adding new data sources and creating new analytics to deliver the most thorough view of the complex world of technology.

A “tech company” is a company that identifies itself as exclusively focused on technology, initially identified by Standard Industry Classification (SIC) code. Using this classification, there are around 350,000 companies in the UK that are “tech companies” from the 4.8m registered companies available. SIC code however can be misleading, so we are constantly evolving our definitions to ensure all companies that are involved in technology services are included within the service.

Embedded Intelligence™ regularly polls publicly available data sources to collate and analyse the outputs. This includes Companies House data, Supplier website data, credit reference agencies and a number of specialist data sources that enhance the data to improve the results. Over time, Embedded Intelligence™ will be adding more and more data sources to provide as broad a sense of the technology industry as it can.

Embedded Intelligence™ also takes news feeds from over 300 news sources and analyses those to assess market trends, and allow our subscribers to benefit from a “curated news” feed – giving them the information they are interested in exclusively, and filtering out the noise.

A Curated News feed is one that is presented as a bespoke information source to subscribers of Embedded Intelligence™. The service looks at all available data and collates key news items based on keywords selected by the subscriber. This is then presented to the subscriber in a single, easy to consume, daily email – or not, if there is no news to consume.

Embedded Intelligence™ is constantly polling available data sources to check for updates, but we appreciate this could become an annoyance for some data sources. On this basis, we restrict the frequency of data updates to a reasonable amount, usually once per week, to reduce the traffic between our site and the data source.

Embedded Intelligence™ only uses publicly available data to perform its analysis, however we appreciate not everyone wants their data to be analysed. For website data, we already respect “Robots.txt” methods of limiting web site access, but if you would like your company data removed please contact us and we will remove immediately.

For each supplier, we are assessing their suitability for the supply of services to the technology market. The key attributes we assess are:

  • Which industry does the supplier serve?
  • Which technologies (Vendors) does the supplier work with?
  • Which solution areas (e.g. Unified Communications; Telecoms) does the supplier get involved in?
  • Which business models (e.g. Consulting; Managed Services) does the supplier operate within?
  • Which accreditations (e.g. ISO9001) does the supplier hold, based on their existence on their website?
  • Financial data, such as turnover and credit risk, that we are able to glean from a breadth of data sources?

As we evolve, more attributes will be added, such as:

  • Sustainability credentials
  • Diversity and Inclusion credentials
  • Insurance levels
  • Customer reviews

Access to Embedded Intelligence™ is available on a monthly or annual subscription, outlined on our pricing page.

Subscriptions are on a per user per month/annum basis.

For Procurement Professionals, access to the service is very straightforward. Simply sign-up, and search for the skills or services you are looking to source – this will provide you with a long list of suppliers with those capabilities. This long list can then be filtered according to the attributes we have identified from our analysis, for instance selecting by accreditation levels, or location, and this will provide you with a short list with whom you can work on the project.

For IT Suppliers, access to your own – and the rest of the technology sector’s – key data is available to all subscribers. Simply sign-up, and search for your company name – if we have profiled your company your details will be top of the list. Click through to your details page and you’ll be able to see your company overview, analysis of the areas on which you focus, financial details from a credit reference agency and other key information as it is ingested into the site.

Key market statistics are published on our Technology Market Analysis page. If you would like more in depth analysis, or bespoke reporting, please get in touch with us and we can discuss further.

Embedded IT, the company behind Embedded Intelligence™, is a professional consulting company that works with many businesses to provide commercial consultancy services. We provide Commercial services (Procurement, Sourcing, Supplier Remediation) to Buyers/Procurement teams, or Sales and Marketing advice (Technology Market Assessments, education, marketing content) to Supplier businesses. In this context, we are very happy to discuss bespoke projects that leverage the data within Embedded Intelligence™, and our broader consulting team, to solve any specific problem you may have.

Embedded Intelligence™ was designed and developed by a team of technology consultants with a commercial technology consulting background, working under the Embedded IT brand.

Embedded IT was formed in 2014 to simplify the IT and Telecoms market and make it easy for clients, service providers and vendors to form long-lasting, successful relationships. It has worked with numerous clients since that time, both “Buyer” and “Supplier” side, offering advice and guidance on the technology marketplace, technology strategy and aligning supplier relationships to this strategic outlook.

Embedded Intelligence™ is the first step towards making the consulting knowledge within the Embedded IT consulting practice available online, democratising information about the technology marketplace for everyone to access at a reasonable price point.

We have created a search engine that is not biased by paid ads, it uses proprietary algorithms to analyse web content for each supplier and orders its results for a particular in “relevance” of that keyword on a page. The algorithms look at the frequency that the keyword occurs on a suppliers website as a proportion of the total words on the site, ensuring that companies that make a high volume of references to the services you are seeking in the context of all of their website appear highest. Algorithms also have bespoke weightings within the calculations, to draw out those companies who (based on other attributes) are likely to be good at particular services.

Using keyword analysis across approximately 3,000 tech related keywords, we have assessed the likely focus of a given company. The 4 charts show:

  1. Tech Category focus – what “layer” in the tech stack does the company work with, driven by the vendors they refer to on their website. If there is lots of discussion about AWS for instance, its likely to be knowledgeable about Cloud technologies
  2. Vendor focus – which vendors are mentioned by a company on their website, and with what frequency, showing a bias towards a particular technology
  3. Industry focus – which industry sectors does a vendor particularly work with, again driven by commonly recognised keywords for instance “Government” would be recognised for references to “cabinet office”
  4. Solution focus – which key industry topics or solutions does the supplier mention, for instance Security, DevOps, Cloud, IoT etc.
